Your questions, answered honestly.

  • If something is weighing on you, even if you can't quite name it, that's a good enough reason to reach out. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of my clients come simply because they feel stuck, burnt out, or quietly overwhelmed.

  • Completely. Most people feel a little nervous before their first session, that's totally normal. My job is to make it feel as human and low-pressure as possible. There's no script you need to follow and no 'right way' to do this.

  • It's a relaxed 20-minute conversation, no forms, no pressure, no commitment required. You can share a little of what's been going on, ask me anything, and get a feel for whether working together seems like a good fit. I want you to leave the call feeling clearer, not more anxious.

  • There's no rigid structure, sessions tend to unfold naturally based on what you bring. Some sessions feel like a breakthrough; others feel quieter and more reflective. Both are valuable. And yes, we sometimes laugh :)

  • You don't need to arrive with a prepared speech or a clear explanation of what's wrong. We can start with "I don't really know where to begin", that's a perfectly good place. And if silence shows up, that's okay too.

  • That's genuinely hard to answer without knowing your situation. Some people feel a significant shift in 8–12 sessions. Others prefer ongoing support. We'll check in regularly and adjust as we go. You're always in control.

  • Yes. Everything you share is confidential, with a small number of exceptions required by law, such as risk of serious harm. I'll walk you through these at the start. Sessions are conducted through Jane App, which is PIPEDA-compliant and encrypted.

  • Yes! and research consistently backs this up. Virtual therapy is just as effective for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, and most other concerns. Many clients actually find it easier to open up from their own space, without the commute or the waiting room.

  • Because all sessions are virtual, I can work with anyone across British Columbia: Vancouver, Burnaby, TriCities, Surrey, Langley, Fraser Valley, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince George, and everywhere in between. As long as you're in the province, we can work together.

  • I believe cost shouldn't be the reason someone doesn't get support. I have a small number of reduced-fee spots available for clients experiencing genuine financial hardship. If this applies to you, please mention it when you reach out and we'll find something that works.

  • Many extended health plans cover Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). Coverage varies, so check with your insurer directly. I don't direct bill, but I'll provide a detailed receipt after each session for you to submit for reimbursement.

  • I ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee. Life happens, if something unexpected comes up, reach out as soon as you can.

  • Say yes, and do it quickly. When a teenager asks for help, that takes courage, and the window can close fast if they feel dismissed or if the process takes too long. Start with a free 20-minute consultation, which you're welcome to join. Your teenager doesn't have to be on that call — but if they want to be, even better.

  • Not necessarily, teenagers pulling away from parents is developmentally normal, even when something harder is going on underneath. What matters is whether they have somewhere to put what they're carrying. If home doesn't feel like that place right now, therapy can be. Many teenagers find it easier to open up to someone outside the family, someone with no stake in the situation. That's not a reflection on you. It's just how it works at this age.

The free 20-minute consultation is the best place to ask anything that isn't answered here.
